2012 Recap & 2013 Intentions

December 2011 was a rough month for me – I lost 2 pets and went through some disappointing events all within a 10 day period. I couldn’t have been more happy for 2012 to roll around.

In the first few months of 2012, I spent a bit of time in Ottawa. Over this period of time, I developed an amazing friendship with my sister and a fellow named Ryan.

In March, I experienced a first – anti-gravity yoga at the Athletic Club in Ottawa. Definitely something I would like to try again, but unfortunately will not be at that location.

In June, I attended Charles Poliquin BioSignature Modulation course in Toronto with my BFF Brittany. This was an amazing learning experience- I tool that will  help me help

others reach body composition goals. This was the week that I learned the importance of proper footwear- Vibrams are essential for that amount of walking. I also met an amazing friend- Darcy from Regina – someone who is very knowledgeable in almost everything fitness, nutrition and health related. This time period also marked the beginning of me “Trying New Things”. I tried SALMON for the first time, and wild boar. Sadly, I have not yet been able to eat the kangaroo that is in my freezer.

July was a fun month – went to see my friend Kim Perras compete in the IDFA Transformation Challenge. Kim, also a trainer, from Ottawa began a weight loss journey in October of 2011 and lost 60 lbs. I felt very privileged to be a part of that day for her. That night, Brittany and I went to the Skrillex concert – which was so much fun!

August was probably one of my favorite months. I was fortunate enough to attend the Ancestral Health Symposium as a ticket became available last minute. I spent 3 days in Boston at Harvard University learning the newest info in nutrition academics. My favorite presentations included Robb Wolf and what he is cooking up with Specialty Health, Mat Lalonde and nutrient density of foods, among many many others. I always receive so much push back for my nutrition recommendations for people – and I cannot tell you how amazing it is to be in a room where everyone else has the same mindset as you. My highlight of the trip was obviously meeting and talking to Robb Wolf, Mark Sisson, Chris Kresser and Dallas and Melissa Hartwig. And I am SO thankful to have met someone who I still communicate with – Whitney Gray (www.nutriclersosis.com) It’s funny how people connect – Whitney and I met over a conversation about our chocolate truffles and frizzy hair.

I would also like to mention that in Boston was my first time in a Whole Foods. And I came back with an addiction to Kombucha. And thanks to my good friend Jill, I am now brewing my own at home. Who ever thought fermenting bacteria would be sooo fun?

In October, I attended the SAF show in Gatineau to watch Kim take the stage again in her first real fitness competition. You are such an inspiration to me, Kim!

In November, I started training at our local CrossFit box which has been the hardest thing I have ever done. I see myself improving rapidly, but it does not get any easier. I look forward to continuing my training there in the new year!

I would like to point out that today is the day that I gave up the Sprinkled Donut last year. I am one of those people who picked a New Years resolution and was able to stick with it.

For 2013, I am not going to set resolutions – but some goals that will help me professionally and personally, as well as some performance goals.

I am started 2013 with a certification in Olympic Weightlifting. I am doing this because I love these lifts, I wanted to learn more about them and ways to improve upon them for my own.

In February, I will put these skills to use in a new program I am started called Intro to Weightlifting. I feel myself migrating to different styles of workouts since I begun professionally developing in the last 2 years.

In March, I am attending the PaleoFX conference in Austin, Texas which I am SO excited about.

I am hoping to attend another education event this year – haven’t decided what or with who.

Over the next year, I would like to really focus on my own nutrition. I would also just like to point out an interesting correlation – the more I learn about food, nutrition, hormones and exercise – my own body composition has worsened. How can learning MORE about food make you eat more chocolate? I just don’t get that. Anyways- hope to fix that in 2013.

What about YOU? How was 2012 for you? What are your intentions for 2013. Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section.
